Defining the Georgian phrase of making a magnificent leg
Imagine the hero of our historical romance novels approaches a great beauty for an introduction. To garner attention and show respect, he just might present his leg, i.e. dip into a very low bow with right leg extended. This is called "making a magnificent leg."
This action (and phrase) can be flirty, cheeky, respectful, obsequious, or even insulting, depending on the occasion and the company, for example, visualize Mr. Collins sweeping a magnificent leg before Lady Catherine in Pride and Prejudice. Takes on a whole new meaning than our previous example of the hero to the potential heroine.
